Chick-fil-A sponsors Food 4 Thought breakfast program

Posted Wednesday, January 25th, 2017

The District 54 Education Foundation is pleased to announce that Chick-fil-A of Schaumburg/West Schaumburg is sponsoring the breakfast program at Eisenhower Junior High. Chick-fil-A of Schaumburg/West Schaumburg’s $10,000 donation to the Foundation’s Food 4 Thought program will provide breakfast for all students in need at Eisenhower for the 2016-17 school year.

The D54 Foundation has committed to raising $280,000 to fund breakfast programs at all District 54 schools to ensure that students begin their day ready to learn. Nearly one-fourth of District 54 students qualify for the federal free lunch program, and while District 54 receives state and federal funds for the lunch program, schools that want to offer breakfast programs to our students in need must raise the money on their own. Currently the Foundation is funding breakfast programs at nine District 54 schools for nearly 1,300 eligible students.

Donations of any size to Food 4 Thought have a direct impact on students’ lives. It costs just $1 a day, or $5 a week, to provide a healthy breakfast to a student; a $200 donation provides breakfast to a child for a full school year. Businesses/corporations and individuals can also sponsor an entire school for a year with a donation of $10,000.

“The D54 Foundation has committed to funding breakfast programs for students from financially struggling families at all District 54 schools to ensure that students begin their day ready to learn,” Foundation Chair Thomas Manzardo said. “We hope that individuals, businesses and organizations will consider making a difference in the life of a child in our community by donating to the D54 Foundation’s Food 4 Thought program.”

Foundation marks 30 years of supporting District 54

Did you know that the District 54 Education Foundation was founded 30 years ago? A small group began holding organizational meetings during the summer of 1987, and the Foundation was officially incorporated that fall.

While the Foundation’s focus has shifted over the years, the mission has remained the same:  to generate and distribute financial and other resources to District 54 schools to enhance the quality of education and provide students with extended learning opportunities.

Over the past three decades the organization has donated a total of nearly $1 million to fund various initiatives in support of students, including:

·         Staff grants to foster innovation and creativity in teaching and learning;

·         STEM enrichment programs so that all students have the opportunity to become innovators, practice collaboration and be prepared for exciting opportunities in their futures;

·         Grants to students from financially struggling families so that they may participate in extracurricular activities; and

·         Breakfast programs for students from financially struggling families to ensure that they begin their day ready to learn. Donations of any size to the Foundation’s Food 4 Thought program, which is raising funds to provide breakfast programs at all District 54 schools, directly impact students’ lives. It costs just $1 a day, or $5 a week, to provide a healthy breakfast to a student; and a $200 donation provides breakfast to a child for a full school year. Businesses, organizations and individuals can also sponsor an entire school for a full year with a donation of $10,000. For more information about Food 4 Thought, visit www.d54foundation.com.

The Foundation is grateful to all of the staff, parents, community members and area businesses and organizations who have helped us to fulfill our mission over the past 30 years, by donating funds, sponsoring and/or volunteering for one of our fundraising events such as Mardi Gras or our golf outing, participating in a Foundation dine-and-share or shop-and-share event, or serving on the board.
